Sampling of the sleeve

Today I began to sample the sleeve for my final design, i felt that this would be a difficult area because the sleeve is divided into sections and held together by two pieces of fabrics.

I began by tracing around a sleeve pattern piece, from this I divided the pattern into 8cm sections, leaving gaps were sleeve would not be needed. I ended up with three pattern pieces.

 Cut out smaller strips of fabrics on the bias grain to hold the bigger sections together. I decided that I would interface one section of the sleeve to see wether or not this would be better.

The middle section is the interfaced section, I feel that it works better when interfaced as the fabric hold it's structure and it is more visually appealing. I found this sampling very tedious, however I'm glad that I have done it as I could have fixed any issues, and I feel more confident with my chosen design now.

I started of by creating the actual choker, I hand stitched a zip together, so that the teeth were facing outward, I then stitched green embroidery thread down the middle of them, and I attached a press-stud on each end so it would fasten up.

Once the strap was complete, I began making the flower out of zip to attach on to it. I used a cream zip, and stitched green embroidery thread the centre of it.

So that the zip would keep it's shape, I stitched copper wire to it, as shown below.

I then manipulated the zip to form a flower, I found this bit quite tricky and fiddly as the wire was harder to bend than I thought it would be, anyway, eventually I managed to bend it to the shape I wanted it to be, and I put a few stitches in to help hold it in place.

I then stitched the flower onto the actual choker in the place I wished it to be.

So yeah, here is my final product. I don't feel that the colour scheme worked as well as I would have liked it to, however I am happy with the way the strap turned out.

Finally! I have finished my skirt for the last brief! It took me a lot longer than I had imagined it would, but at least it is complete.

Above are a few images of my Toile. It doesn't look exactly like my chosen design, I had a fair few difficulties. 

I know what your thinking, it's not exactly fashionable, well, it's not supposed to be, I was focused more on the idea of anti-fashion, breaking all the rules, and my original concept for this design, which is rebelling, anger and chaos. 

I began by ripping up scrap fabric, to represent shattered glass, as though thrown in anger. Ripping up fabric in itself  produces a very powerful feeling.I haven't used any over locking, and the rough sewing is shown at the seams as another way of showing rebellion in my design.

Designing

So I have started my designs based on my theme of change over time (I will try and upload the photos soon). I have based the designs on emotions, and have used a time from my life to represent this, it's based over two years. I was slightly unsure about this, as I have gone through some fairly hurtful things, and being so open about it can be hard. However I have ignored my uncertainties and gone for it.

Isn't it funny how dramatically our lives can change over such a short period of time?
