Creating my trousers! The toile..

I took the design from a previous brief on ethical fashion. I had to use a fabric that had little stretch, as it may effect the shape and fit of my garment, so I decided to toile in calico as it had little elasticity. I started by changing the pattern piece to suit my design, I then cut these pieces out in fabric, there were lots of different pieces so I labeled them all to save confusion.

I then sewed each section together with a basic 1.5cm seam allowance, there was a lot of sewing but it was pretty basic as long as I didn't mix the pieces up!

I went on to sew each trouser leg in this way, and then sew each trouser leg to one another. I feel that nothing went disastrously wrong, however the strips through my trousers were supposed to match up at the seams and didn't, but that didn't matter too much.

I will put some pictures up shortly of the finished product. :)

The last of my sampling and the start of my patterning and creating of the toile :)

So today I have managed to complete all of my sampling, and have now moved onto creating my toile. :)

For the last of my sampling, I have looked at the skirt area, and the gathering at the bottom. I originally gathered the outer layer, and the three layers of netting, but I don't feel that this is visually appealing, so I think on my actual design I will just have one layer of netting, and just gather the outer layer.

I then moved on to creating my patterns for the front and back bodice section. I used a close fitting bodice block, and altered the pattern pieces with design lines whilst it was on the mannequin.

I then cut out my new pattern's out of Calico, and took in the darts. I feel that this part of my design is very simple and easy to create as it is so basic.

I have began to create the strips of fabrics to hold the front and back bodice together at the sides, they will measure two centimetres in width and be cut on the bias grain, however I will be completing these tomorrow.
I feel that today has been successful, as I have been able to complete my sampling.

My Finished Toile/Skirt!

Finally! I have finished my skirt for the last brief! It took me a lot longer than I had imagined it would, but at least it is complete.

Above are a few images of my Toile. It doesn't look exactly like my chosen design, I had a fair few difficulties.
I know what your thinking, it's not exactly fashionable, well, it's not supposed to be, I was focused more on the idea of anti-fashion, breaking all the rules, and my original concept for this design, which is rebelling, anger and chaos.
I began by ripping up scrap fabric, to represent shattered glass, as though thrown in anger. Ripping up fabric in itself  produces a very powerful feeling.I haven't used any over locking, and the rough sewing is shown at the seams as another way of showing rebellion in my design.
